A hobby of Merle’s is a small-batch coffee roasting business. We roast green coffee beans as ordered by friends and customers to provide the freshest possible taste of coffee brewed from the world’s best Arabica beans.
We are a local roastery based in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada. Since 2004, we’ve been roasting and delivering fresh coffee each and every week.
We have a passion for good coffee and a deep respect for the people who grow it.
We keep our values simple and honest and our coffee fresh and delicious.
We source high quality Arabica green coffee beans from Brazil, Kenya, Costa Rica, Peru, Columbia, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Ethiopia among other sources.
Where it all began…
We had never encountered the amazing aroma of freshly-roasted coffee until a friend shared a bag of roasted coffee beans with us. Merle immediately began a quest to learn how to roast coffee for personal use. Within days, he was roasting coffee beans with a hot-air popcorn popper. We’ve never looked back. Soon, friends were asking about buying beans for personal use. At one point, Merle was roasting with three popcorn poppers going at once. Rita was very patient with the smoke and chaff produced by this process.
How we’ve grown…
The friends who shared our coffee helped spread the knowledge of the first locally-roasted coffee in Red Lake, Ontario. It wasn’t long until a local coffee shop, The Water Buffalo, asked to sample our freshly roasted coffee. The Water Buffalo has featured our coffee ever since 2004. Awareness and appreciation of locally roasted coffee grew, and Tibaagan Coffees developed a larger roasting system to keep up with the demand.
Today, we continue the values we began with: coffee as fresh as it gets–roasted only when ordered, and in small batches. This provides a quality taste unlike anything you find among larger coffee companies.
